Do you dream of growing your own garlic?

What's the difference between seed garlic and culinary garlic?  All seed garlic is > than 2 inches diameter, but size is not the most important factor for seed quality garlic. Our seed garlic is the best of our crop, monitored during the year, rogued aggressively to remove any problem plants as they emerge and a sample is tested for white rot and stem and bulb nematodes.  We are currently using a 3 year crop rotation along with solarization to remove pathogens from the soil.  We won't sell garlic as seed garlic until we've watched it grow for 3 generations (many garlic diseases have no symptoms in early stages. 

In short, seed garlic gives you the best chance of a quality crop that will not introduce new pathogens into your garden of field.  Of course, you can grow culinary garlic, but if you see a 2 inch bulb in our culinary garlic, its likely that it didn't pass one of the above tests.

Our seed garlic varieties (Chesnock Red and German Xtra Hardy love the cold winters of zones 7 to 5 (They are acclimatized to Central Oregon Zone 6b) and with some preparation and care could set you up with a lifelong supply of your own amazing hardneck garlic.
